  • ABERDEEN NEEDS MORE JOBS!  I will work with our economic development professionals in an effort to create more industrial jobs for Aberdeen people.

  • I will see that persons hired to work for the City of Aberdeen are hired on the basis of their qualifications (experience and training) and NOT because of politics.

  • Give a fair hearing to citizens who approach the Board of Aldermen with problems or questions.

  • Pursue stricter law enforcement, monitor fines levied in municipal court to see that they are COLLECTED, not just levied.

Jim Buffington offers the voters of Ward 5 the qualifications and experience necessary to be the best choice for the post of Alderman, Ward 5. He has experience as a member of the Aberdeen Board of Aldermen (two terms, 2000 to 2008) and over 40 years experience in business management and ownership. Jim is available, approachable and  FAIR WITH EVERYONE.

About Jim:

  • Resident of Aberdeen over 60 years

  • Retired owner of Buffington Broadcasting Corporation, which owned and operated WWZQ-FM (Oldies 105.3) and WMPA-AM

  • Vietnam War Era veteran of U.S. Army Air Defense Command

  • Member, American Legion

  • Member of First United Methodist Church in Aberdeen for almost sixty years; now serves as a member of the Administrative Board

  • Graduate of Keegan Technical Institute, where he studied  broadcast journalism and announcing.

  • Past President and Lifetime Member of Mississippi Association of Broadcasters

NEWLY ELECTED CITY OFFICIALS WILL TAKE OFFICE IN A CEREMONY SCHEDULED FOR 3:00 P.M., TUESDAY, MAY 3RD UPSTAIRS AT CITY HALL.




Aberdeen's Second Primary (the run-off election) will take place on Tuesday, April 19, 2016.  The candidate receiving a MAJORITY of the votes will be declared WINNER.

WHERE DO I VOTE?
You will vote at the HIGH STREET COMMUNITY CENTER,  on
 High Street at South Matubba Street.


PAPER BALLOTS
are being used in this year's city elections. It is the type of ballot on which you fill in an oval beside the name of the candidate you are voting for, then insert the ballot into a computer.


VOTING ABSENTEE
 The absentee ballots have arrived, so  you can go ahead and vote absentee.  City Clerk Jackie Benson says her office will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 12-Noon on Saturday, April 9th and Saturday, April 16th for absentee voting.

Absentee ballots have already been mailed to those who voted absentee on April 5th (the first primary)

 

If you are a shut-in, call the City Clerk's office at 369-8588 and ask them to mail an absentee ballot to you. When you receive the ballot, complete it and mail to the City Clerk's office.

Otherwise, go to the City Clerk's office at Aberdeen City Hall and apply for an absentee ballot.
